Wonderful.

that is amazing.

drumroll, please…

remember that “mystery project” i mentioned a while back? no? well, i’ll tell you about it anyway:

i started a food blog!

i know, there are a million food blogs, but this one is mine and it’s fun and it’s awesome. so check it out. i’m sure it will change and evolve as i go along, but i like having a place to talk about all of the things i’m making (and eating). also, i really wanted to experiment with wordpress. hopefully i’ll have a job soon so i can afford to upgrade it a little bit, but for now i’m just working through all of the basics.

unfortunately, some annoying blog that doesn’t even reference david cross already had the domain i wanted (they haven’t even posted since december!), but i’m guessing i can beat them to thrillingmiracles.com if i get $$ soon enough (and there’s always the alternate youmeandthepan.com, which i might decide i like better anyway).

being unemployed is weird.

even if i’m really productive, sending cover letters and researching a bunch of new things to apply to, i feel like i haven’t accomplished anything with my day. i think i need to try working in coffee shops. sitting here all day is…boring. and weirdly draining.

on the up side: creative juices are flowing on a new project (stay tuned!), i properly assembled my bike (and got a tune-up and sweet new lights here), and dan and i have been making some delicious dinners (tonight: mark bittman’s rice noodles with chiles, pork, and basil).

embarrassing confession

you know how in chick-flicks there’s always that girl, usually some hottie-made-frumpy like sandra bullock, who is so “pathetic” and “lonely” that she can order from her local chinese restaurant without even looking at a menu? and it’s always an absurd amount of food? (and of course later in the movie she lands some hot dude and doesn’t have to eat chinese food alone anymore, because of course that’s some kind of metaphor for romance or success or something)

well anyway…i think i might be that girl. except it’s the sushi restaurant downstairs (that’s healthier, right? and less sad?) but they do always include two sets of chopsticks. and they definitely know who i am. i swear i don’t order that much food that often. and whatever…it’s delicious.

yum yum yummy.
i’ve actually had two of these, the hibiscus (top left) and the dulce de leche (bottom middle), at dough in brooklyn and they’re delicious. now this article (and especially the slide show) makes me really want to try peter pan and the doughnut plant…!

project eat-my-fridge
i recently realized that i have a lot of random stuff piling up in my cabinets and freezer: rice noodles, panko, canned soup, frozen peas…and tons of sauces. as a sort of side-resolution to my saving money resolution, i decided that i would try to eat up these things, in order to be practical but also to save money. though i haven’t totally stuck to it, my side-resolution was to only buy new groceries that are either necessary to make something with my ingredients or things like fresh produce and milk.
here’s what i started with last night: brown rice, frozen stir-fry mix, sesame seeds, and various sauces. i also splurged on some roasted cashews to add a little protein…and excitement.

This costs $1. That’s it. Also, I wish I had some of these for lunch. So, so badly.

mmm and while we’re on the subject of food…i still think about this place, weeks later. such amazing dumplings, and for so cheap!
